As Cloistered monks, we do not normally mingle with guests but in this day- March 18th, 2008- I was surprised to see a group of Filipinos at the Churchyard of our Convent.
And according to the teaching of our Holy Father St Benedict, -receive guests like Jesus Christ and so, bending the house rule- I offered food to them and fed them with what was left in our lunch. I remember it was Dom Marcus- another Filipino Monk - who was the cook that day. That saved me from embarrassment, then, as there was enough food left for us to serve the group. Though, Dom Marcus was a bit skeptical about serving them the food that was reserved for our evening light meal, still he managed to offer them for the group. Btw, right now, Dom Marcus is here in Los Angeles, living as layperson , too. He left the monastery in year 2009.
